Ceroc ‘Scorch’ Southport Weekender 14/06/13 – 17/06/13

This weekend was the Southport Weekender. This is where about 2,000 people gather to mainly dance Modern Jive. There are lessons in the day and a massive freestyle in the evening. The classes range from beginner to advance and are taught by the top teachers for Ceroc. It is insane and really fun. If you have never been to a weekender I highly recommend it. At weekenders there are two rooms doing classes and another doing chilled / blues freestyle music and special music hours during the day. In the evening there is a main room doing mainly upbeat music, a room doing mainly tango music and another doing blues / chill out music. I had so much fun and met so many people. I surprised that so many of the people who go to my local venues were there. It was nice to dance with others that are not from my area as they had a different set of moves. I really enjoyed myself. This time I spent most of the day doing the classes and in the evening in the blues / chill out /pub. The bes

Southport Weekender February 2013

The weekend was amazing. I can’t tell you how much I loved it. At the weekender there are classes and freestyles. I think I did 8 classes over the course of the weekend but I’m not sure. The best class I did was the advanced class called Cream by Tim Saint. That class made my brain go into over drive. As usual all of the classes I did were men over as appose to women. It was great fun as the men had to move round. Now they know what it feels like to be us women. There were two special hours one on Saturday and one on Sunday. They were swinger’s hours. This is where some of the ladies get dressed up in the 1950’s style swingers dresses and dance to swinger’s music. The Saturday one was DJ by Chris Uren and the Sunday one by Mike Ellard (head of Ceroc aka big boss) and done in the pub. I did go to both of them. I found that Chris Uren’s hour was better because he played songs that were swing songs but you could also Modern jive to. I felt that Mike was playing pure

Ceroc Welsh Champs 2013

This weekend the Yorkshire Fusion team went down to Wales to take part in the Ceroc Welsh Champs. The weekend started on the Friday with a dancing with the stars freestyle. This was really good as we got to dance with different dancers. I found it really good. The standard of dancing was really good. I had so much fun. I did found it hard to ask other men to dance other than those in the team. They did the first round of the role reversal category. There were only two rounds of this category. The finals were done the following day in the evening. The competition was on the Saturday. It was a really long day. I competed in the team cabaret, lucky dip and top cats. The other categories that people could have competed in are Intermediate's Freestyle Trophy, Advanced Freestyle Trophy, Open 'Dragon' Trophy, Role Reversal, Over 45s, Showcase, Double Trouble, Ceroc Pro-Am, Aerials and 'funKed uP' I enjoyed watching the other dancers as well as competing.

Ceroc X Routine Part 1 11/02/13

Tonight’s routine was for competing in the Ceroc London Champs. The Ceroc London Champs is a competition for people who do modern jive. It is held in London at the Watford Colosseum on 5 th May 2013. It has various categories, one of them being Ceroc X. This year in this category you learn a fix routine of moves. The difference between the other dancers, and you, is the way you style and funk up the moves. The routine above is part one. Part two is to come next week. James Richardson did a very good job of teaching the routine. It doesn’t look easy to teach, but it was easy to learn. Here is the full routine done by Tim Sant. If you are thinking of entering the Ceroc X category this is the routine you need to do. I will post the second part of James’s routine next week. The class as a whole was really good. Ceroc at St Chads Intermediate Routine 11/03/13

The night was really good with lots of good dances, great atmosphere and wonderful music. Thanks to James Richardson for teaching and Chris Uren for the music. Here’s my video for the intermediate routine. This routine was really good. I loved the cross step and the penguin move. The penguin move was where people struggled. Some couldn't make it fluid. Once the man steps in front of the lady you bring the lady in close and then rock round. It was a fantastic night with lots of people. I had some good dances. The music was really good. We had the first meeting for the competition group dance. We are hoping to compete at the Welsh Champs in Cardiff on the 8th September and Scottish Charity Champs in Edinburgh on the 1st November We just talked about how this will work.
