Ceroc Welsh Champs 2013

This weekend the Yorkshire Fusion team went down to Wales to take part in the Ceroc Welsh Champs.

The weekend started on the Friday with a dancing with the stars freestyle. This was really good as we got to dance with different dancers. I found it really good. The standard of dancing was really good. I had so much fun. I did found it hard to ask other men to dance other than those in the team. They did the first round of the role reversal category. There were only two rounds of this category. The finals were done the following day in the evening.

The competition was on the Saturday. It was a really long day. I competed in the team cabaret, lucky dip and top cats. The other categories that people could have competed in are Intermediate's Freestyle Trophy, Advanced Freestyle Trophy, Open 'Dragon' Trophy, Role Reversal, Over 45s, Showcase, Double Trouble, Ceroc Pro-Am, Aerials and 'funKed uP'   I enjoyed watching the other dancers as well as competing.

The day started with dancers being paired up in the lucky dip category and then they did the first round of lucky dips. The other rounds of lucky dips were done throughout the day with the semi – final and final being done in the evening. The lucky dip has a total of 6 rounds. I made it to round 4 with my partner. He was really good but the song we got was really fast and really hard to dance to. You really needed to know the song in order to dance to it. Two of the other team members, Tee Liburd and Ryan Morrison, made it all the way to the semi – final.
The next part of the day was doing the first round of top cats. This category is where you compete as an individual. There is a male winner and a female winner. Each round you get a new partner. I did enter this category but I didn’t make it passed the 1st round.  The other rounds were done during the day. This had 5 rounds with the semi – final and final happening in the evening. One of the other team members, Tee Liburd made it to round 3.

From mid-afternoon they did the other categories and there were about 1 round and then the semi - final and final with the exception of the Open 'Dragon' Trophy. The showcases and the team cabaret were done from about 2pm. This was really good. The team cabarets were only done the once but the showcases were done once and then a final of three of them did them again in a final.
The Open 'Dragon' Trophy category is a different category. People who compete in this category have been competing for a long time and have competed in the intermediate and the advance categories before doing this one. They were not dong the intermediate or advance category at this champs. They were to dance to six songs and each song was from a different type of music e.g. disco etc. each time they competed they were given two songs to dance to and scored on each song. The pair that got the highest total score won. Each round was split into two heats. Everyone who entered competed in all the rounds. If you were in the second heat you knew what type of song you were getting to dance to.

In the advance category two of the team members and two other dancers, Matthew and Rebecca and Jonathon and Chloe made it to the final. Matthew and Rebecca came third in this category. I thought everyone did really well.
The standard of dancing in the final was really good. I am inspired to be that good. i enjoyed seeing all the outfits and I really wanted some of them. In one of the rounds in one of the categories (I can’t remember which one) we had an outfit malfunction. She wore a fringe outfit. It was a bikini top that was attached with sequins to the trousers and the bikini top came undone. It didn’t fall down and she did a very good job to dance and keep it on. Someone did try to fix it but they could do it properly until she had finished the song. I think she made it to the next round.
I had a fantastic weekend and will defiantly be doing it again next year. I’m looking forward to doing it again.
