What is a Ceroc weekender???
This is a dance
weekender attended by about 2,000 people. There are lots of classes and lots of
chance to freestyle. It lasts Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. You get 3 nights’ accommodation so you can stay till
Monday morning if you wish to. There is a range of classes from beginners to
advance. You don’t need to go to any Ceroc classes before as the beginners
classes are there to help get you started. For those who have done Ceroc before
then there is a range of classes on offer from dips and drops to fat man. It is
really good way to learn the fine detail with dancing so that you connect with
your partner. There is a chance for you to try other types of dance such a
blues and tango. There are 3 rooms’ one main one tango like and one blues /
chill out. The chill out room has no classes on but lots of music so that you
can freestyle all day. The other rooms have various classes on during the day
and you can freestyle in that evening.

What happens???
On Friday there will
be an intermediate ice breaker class and maybe another class on a different
style of dance such as cha cha cha or tango. Depends on what the organizers
want to do. On Saturday and Sunday during the day there will be lessons on. The
lessons last 1 hour and then 15 minutes freestyle between the lessons so you
can ask the teachers to explain what you didn’t get on a one to one basis or to
practice what you just learnt in that lesson. You get to choose 1 of 2 lessons
to do each hour. So all you have to do is go to lesson A or lesson B or just do
something else. On Saturday evening there will be a cabaret performance which includes
the great escape competition. This is where some people compete against each
other. It’s just a bit of fun. Depending on what the organizers want to do
there may be a part in the cabaret where the teachers show off or where competition
winners show off from winning various competitions. Sunday evening is just a
big freestyle.

How do I book up for one???, What do I
take???
To book go to www.ceroc.com/escape Once you have paid
you will receive a conformation email which will have all the details on what
to take and what else will be going on besides the classes. The weekenders are
gender balanced by the booking system.
This is something
that I can describe but you may find your experience may be different from
mine. Your first time will be fantastic. You will learn a lot about weekenders
and may be hooked.
My advice to
getting through a weekender is to make sure that you have comfy shoes for
during the day so that your feet don’t wear out before Sunday evening. This could
mean wearing flats and not heals for the classes. I tend to on Friday and Sunday
when I’m tired I go to bed. I don’t push it. I do try to push it on Saturday and
I try to stay out as long as I can. This is entirely up to you what you do and
how you make this weekend a good experience.
This video will
explain it a bit better.
